HTML

This page showcases two websites I've created from scratch using open-source code applications such as Atom and software developing platforms such as GitHub. This past fall semester I challenged myself to pick up HTML, CSS and javascript skills to build beyond my reporting experience. I find that these tools are essential to my journalism career as it helps me think of how readers will interact with the stories I or my fellow newsroom peers will post. Gaining these skills has also helped me learn how to make improvements to sites that will make site navigation more accessible for people with certain disabilities. These sites also demonstrate my familiarity with designing and developing websites by using UX design processes —  creating sketches, wireframes and prototypes.

I was inspired to create this Missouri Birding Guidebook to expand and share my newfound knowledge from a previous story I reported on. This site serves as a tool for new and interested birders from or visiting Missouri. Each page serves a different purpose from birding tips,  to presenting resident birds and their sounds, to a google map listing popular birding sites. The use of ChromeDev tools, third party validator websites and the W3C guidelines helped me in my development.

Portfolio Site

I created this website to showcase some news clips I have gathered my junior and senior year at the Missouri School of Journalism. I wanted to put my new HTML, CSS and javascript skills to the test to present my work in a unique way. The color coordination expresses my individuality as well as works well as a color contrast palette. It also includes a little joke I like about pasta!
