Since the age of 7, Matthew Beckwith knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. The Kansas City tornado of 2003 is the moment when Beckwith realized that he wanted to make the weather a part of his life. Fast forward to the Spring of 2018, he officially earns the title of being a meteorologist and the first person in his family to graduate from college. He now proudly and confidently forecasts the weekdays for the people of Mid-Missouri in KOMU 8’s newsroom in Columbia, MO.
From the time Beckwith enters the newsroom, he is prepared to take on the responsibility that comes with forecasting the lives of the viewers, daily. The two events that have forever impacted him are the January 2019 snowfall in Columbia, Missouri and the Jefferson City, Missouri tornado of May 2019. Both of these significant events have only humbled him and made him love his career even more. His focus, confidence, and passion combined are what drive this weatherman to broadcast his forecast.
